Chairman
10th
August 2022
Dear Members,
I am delighted to have been elected as your new Chairman. I am also delighted to welcome onto the clubs
committee some new faces, Isabelle Thorogood, Catherine Foster, and Martin Hann. I would also take this
opportunity to thank those existing club officers and committee members who have agreed to retain their
current positions and continue to serve the membership.
My special thanks go to the outgoing Chairman, Steve Allen. Steve has held this position twice and the
past two years have probably been the most difficult in our or any club’s history. I am pleased that
Steve has agreed to stay on the committee and I am certain that his experience will prove invaluable
as we move forward.
As said the past two years have been focussed on the survival of the club and the safety of our
membership in relation to Covid. It is important that we recognise and thank our previous committee
for their work in this respect. We were the first club in the county, and one of the first in the country
to return to outdoor shooting and the measures taken during our indoor season provided a safe environment
for all club members.
What are the major changes going to be and how will they affect club members?
The club can now be more forward thinking and create a development strategy that will hopefully increase
club membership, encourage greater participation of club events, and enhance the members experience of
both our club and our sport. At the end of the August the committee will release a set of goals which we
hope to achieve over the next 12 months. These will be centred around four clearly defined development areas:
• People
• Resources
• Community
• Finance
Concerning finance, it is however only right to inform you of a significant change that is being implemented in
connection with club fees. The club has again over the past 12 months made an operating loss and whilst this
was deemed “acceptable” during the Covid period it is not sustainable. As a result, club fees have been
rationalised into two categories, senior and junior, and fees have been increased to ensure that our costs
are covered. The club secretary will be mailing out the 2022 / 23 membership renewal packs shortly which will
contain the full details. Whilst the increase appears substantial, I hope that you will agree that it still
provides good value as it covers both indoor and outdoor shooting for just £4.00 per week (adults).
When we publish our goals for the coming year, we would be delighted to hear from any club member who has
some time to help us turn those goals into deeds.
"If everyone does a little, a lot can be achieved!"
Thank you in advance for your support
